DR. JEFFREY A. SHERIDAN: Anybody that wears glasses that needs glasses, anywhere from near sighted to far sighted to presbyopia to astigmatism, we can fix most of the problems with contact lenses. And for people that thought they were not a good candidate for contact lenses who had a good amount of astigmatism, we have good contact lenses for astigmatism.
Soft lenses work very well, soft toric lenses. Hard lenses or rigid gas permeable lenses are still available. But we don’t use them as much. But they still are available. People with presbyopia that have old sightedness, can't see up close anymore with their distance correction or if they have good distance vision, can't see up close, we can do monovision where one eye sees near and one eye sees distance.
There are also new BIFOCAL contact lenses that are very new and you've probably even seen in the media recently. And they are a good option for a number of people over 40.
Here in Florida, with people that wear glasses that are very active, particularly in the summer months when it's hot and humid, the glasses fog up. They get sweat on the glasses. They're not fun to wear in the heat.
But contact lenses are a good option for those that are very active, golfers, tennis players. Anybody that is active in the summer time that needs glasses can benefit from contact lenses.
