DR. JEFFREY A. SHERIDAN: Eyelid surgery is wonderful for an aging population. As we mature, the skin of our eyelids starts to stretch. And sometimes it will actually stretch down to the point where it touches the eyelashes or interferes with the vision or just disturbs a person. And it's easy enough to take that extra skin that's in the way and remove it with surgery and reconstruct the eyelid and improve a person's function, improve their vision and improve their looks all at the same time. A typical patient is anywhere between their 50's and even into their 80's. The majority I'd say in their 60's and 70, who are starting to look like their parents, and their eyelids are starting to get in their way of their vision or the eyelids are touching eyelashes. And they're noticing that. And it's bothering them. It's a wonderful tool for quickly improving their quality of life. First thing they tell me that the most noticeable thing that they say, oh, I look much, much better. I don't look tired anymore. I don't look like I'm falling asleep. I can see my eyelids. Some of the women say that they can finally put eye makeup on again and actually see it. But more importantly, many people, it improves their vision. They get a wider field of vision. They get more light. Things are not as dim. Things are brighter. So it improves the quality of their vision as well as the appearance.
