Upper Eyelid Surgery Leesburg, Eustis, Clermont
Great strides have been made with upper eyelid surgery. New techniques allow for a far less invasive procedure. For more than a century, upper eyelid surgery has been used to remove excess fat and tissue that hang too low over the brow line and create a wide-eyed, alert appearance. The procedure can also function as a form of reconstructive surgery to repair defects in the tissue surrounding the eye caused by skin cancer removal. Upper eyelid surgery is sometimes combined with other procedures such as lower eyelid surgery.
Upper eyelid surgery is available at the Leesburg, Eustis, and Clermont locations of Total Eye Care Center. If you’d like to learn more about the procedure and meet with one of our doctors, please contact our eye care practice.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Over time, the hood of the upper lid can surrender to gravity and slowly migrate south. This is part of the natural aging process and affects some more than others. If you find that drooping lids are hindering your sight, consider upper eyelid surgery. The main objective of upper eyelid surgery is to reshape the fold in the upper eyelid and remove drooping skin. It also reduces puffiness in the inner corner of the eye. The result is a restored line of sight, as well as a well-rested and alert appearance around the eye area. Upper eyelid surgery is also performed for Leesburg, Eustis, and Clermont patients for aesthetic reasons, as it has a rejuvenating effect on the entire eye area. It may be combined with lower eyelid surgery for maximum results.
During the procedure, our doctors will make small incisions in the natural skin fold of the upper eyelid; excess fatty tissue will be removed, muscles may be repositioned, and the skin will be tightened. Once closed, the incisions will hardly be noticeable in the natural fold of the lids.
This procedure lasts approximately one hour, depending on the specific course of action your doctor prescribes. As you recover from eyelid surgery, ointment or eye drops may be prescribed and applied to facilitate speedy healing and minimize any discomfort. Some patients experience tightness, irritation, and swelling in the eye area; our doctors will provide specific after-care instructions for these scenarios.
