Lower Eyelid Surgery Leesburg, Eustis, Clermont
The eyelids are a problem area for more people than one might realize. Some suffer from impaired vision due to sagging lower lids or puffy under-eye bags. For others, the removal of malignant eyelid lesions alters the appearance and function of their eyelids.
Fortunately, Total Eye Care Center offers a surgical solution to address these issues and restore vision. Lower eyelid surgery is a safe and effective procedure that removes excess fat and tightens skin around the eyes. It can be performed alone or coupled with upper eyelid surgery. Learn more about the specifics of lower eyelid surgery, and contact our Eustis, Clermont, and Leesburg eye doctors to determine whether eyelid surgery is right for you.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
The normal aging process and environmental factors can lead to changes in the skin around your eyes that impede your line of sight. Lower eyelid surgery removes excess skin, fat, or muscle from the lower eyelid area, thus eliminating the appearance of bags and improving vision. During the procedure, an incision is made in the lower lash line. Fat deposits are then removed and excess skin may be trimmed. Fine sutures are used to close the incision, and removed soon after. Scarring is barely visible because the incision is made under the lash line; this is just one of the benefits of eyelid surgery.
It is important to note that lower eyelid surgery will not minimize the appearance of dark under-eye circles.
Lower eyelid surgery lasts about an hour, depending on your particular treatment plan. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, eliminating the need for a hospital stay. Because you will be sedated after the surgery, it is necessary for you to arrange for transportation and companionship home.
A lubricating ointment will be applied to your eyes to ensure healing; this may possibly cause temporary blurred vision. In the days following your lower eyelid surgery, it is imperative that you follow our doctors’ after-care instructions in order to avoid eyelid surgery complications.
Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty
If you have pockets of fat underneath your eyes but no loose skin, our doctors may recommend a procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty (laser lower eyelid surgery). During a transconjunctival blepharoplasty, an incision is made in the lower eyelid, and excess fat is removed. The benefits include no external scarring and less bruising and swelling.
