Eyelid Surgery Risks Leesburg, Eustis, Clermont
When considering any operation, it is important to weigh the potential complications against the benefits. Although the vast majority of cases are successful, eyelid surgery risks do exist.
For our Leesburg, Eustis, and Clermont patients, the experienced Total Eye Care Center surgeons take every precaution to ensure a successful outcome. We will guide you through the risks and benefits associated with eyelid surgery and provide honest, straightforward answers to any questions that you might have.
Eyelid Surgery Risks at a Glance
Complications with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) are highly unlikely and vary in degree. As the procedure is minimally invasive, most eyelid surgery risks are minor, temporary, and easily treated at our fully-equipped Leesburg, Eustis, and Clermont facilities.
Minor blepharoplasty complications include:
- Swelling around the corners of the eyelids
- Slight difficulty keeping eyes closed during sleep
- Blurred vision
- Infection
- Dryness or burning of the eyes
- Excessive tearing
- A negative reaction to anesthesia used in surgery
More serious, though exceedingly rare, complications include:
- Inversion of the lower lid from drooping
- Potential hematoma, or blood accumulation under the skin, is not usually serious
- Retinal detachment from outer layers of the eye
- Impaired vision
Fortunately, these more serious complications can typically be treated with additional surgery. The best way to lower the risk associated with eyelid surgery is to follow your surgeon’s instructions strictly before, during, and after the procedure.
The Ideal Candidate for Eyelid Surgery
To determine whether you are eligible for blepharoplasty, a veteran surgeon at Total Eye Care Center will conduct an extensive review of your medical history and overall physical and emotional health. With your individual needs and cosmetic goals in mind, we will also work with you to set realistic expectations.
