Eyelid Surgery Leesburg, Eustis, Clermont
Eyelid surgery, clinically known as blepharoplasty, involves the removal of excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery is often performed for cosmetic reasons as it rejuvenates the skin around the eyes, creating a fresher, more well-rested appearance. However, the doctors at Total Eye Care Center may suggest eyelid surgery for patients whose vision is impeded by excess eyelid skin, or who seek to restore normal function and appearance to eyelids that have had cancerous lesions removed.
We invite you to learn more about the eyelid surgery procedure, including the risks, benefits, and cost of the surgery. When you’re ready to make an appointment to discuss eyelid surgery with our Eustis, Clermont, or Leesburg doctors, please contact our practice.
Eyelid Surgery: The Procedure
Strides in modern medicine have improved eyelid surgery techniques, making the procedure safer and more effective than ever. You will be placed under anesthesia to reduce the risk of any pain or discomfort during the eyelid surgery procedure. Small incisions are made in either the crease of the upper lids or just below the lower lashes, depending on whether upper or lower eyelid surgery is being performed. Our doctors carefully remove excess fat, skin, and muscle tissue from around the eyelids, and close the incisions with miniscule stitches. The result is a pleasing contour to the eye, as well as an unobstructed view.
Eyelid Surgery Benefits
Eyelid surgery improves vision that has been impaired by heavy, drooping lids or bulging pockets of fat surrounding the eyes. It is also helpful to patients who have had skin cancer lesions removed from their eyelids. In addition to the functional benefits of eyelid surgery, the aesthetic improvements are a perk. The skin around the eyes will be tighter, and the entire face will appear well rested and youthful.
Eyelid Surgery Risks and Complications
As with any surgery, there are complications and risks associated with eyelid surgery. It is paramount that you ask questions and discuss eyelid surgery with your doctor in detail in order to understand these risks. While serious complications are rare, some eyelid surgery patients may develop minor infection, irritation, numbness, or temporary vision problems (such as double vision) after the procedure. Our physicians will gladly explain the procedure in depth and answer any of your questions.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery and Results
The recovery period from eyelid surgery lasts several weeks and is typically free of complications. Postoperative planning can help reduce complications and risks. Our doctors and staff members will provide detailed post-surgical instructions, the most notable being to arrange for a driver and companion to accompany you immediately after your operation. Some patients may experience minor side effects after their procedure, including sensitivity to light, itchiness, and blurry vision. Most patients are able to return to work one week to ten days after eyelid surgery. All other activities that were restricted should be discussed with your doctor to determine how long you should abstain from them.
Lower Eyelid Surgery
Sun damage and genetics can speed up the aging process around the eyes. Lower eyelid surgery removes the excess fat and skin from under the eye. This procedure reduces the puffiness creating a more youthful appearance. Lower eyelid surgery is delicate and requires a complete ophthalmic assessment. This is necessary to rule out possible complications. Oftentimes, this procedure is completed simultaneously with other related procedures.
Upper Eyelid Surgery
Upper eyelid surgery will remove excess fat and tissue that hang too low over the brow line and impede the vision. Upper eyelid surgery is sometimes combined with other procedures such as lower eyelid surgery.
Eyelid Surgery Cost
The average cost of eyelid surgery is relatively low in comparison to other forms of cosmetic surgery. The cost is determined by a few factors, such as anesthesia fees. Our staff would be happy to provide you with more information.
