Types of IOLs

February 06, 2011 @ 02:25 PM — by Total Eye Care Center

Cataracts are common in older patients, but they have been known to affect young people as well in some cases (usually associated with another health issue). This clouding of the lens of the eye can impair your vision severely, which is why it’s important that you come to our Leesburg, FL eye care center to undergo cataract surgery. During this surgery, the clouded lens of the eye will be extracted and replaced by an artificial lens. This artificial lens is known as an intraocular lens implant.

What are Intraocular Lens Implants?

Intraocular lens implants are artificial lenses that replaced the lens of the eye. They are a sure way to achieve clear sight and excellent vision after cataract surgery. There are two kinds of intraocular lens implants: monofocal intraocular lens implants and multifocal intraocular lens implants.

About Monofocal Intraocular Lens Implants (Monofocal IOLs)

Monofocal lens implants are designed to correct vision at only one kind of distance. This means that these kinds of Leesburg, FL intraocular lens implants will only be able to correct vision for nearsightedness or farsightedness, not both.

About Multifocal Intraocular Lens Implants (Multifocal IOLs)

Multifocal lens implants are lens implants that are designed to take care of vision at multiple distances. These allow for some extra degree of versatility with your vision.

So which kind of intraocular lens implants will be right for you? Monofocal intraocular lens implants or multifocal intraocular lens implants? This is a decision that can’t be answered over the internet. The best way to find out which of these intraocular lens implants is best for your needs is to visit our offices for a consultation.

To learn more about monofocal IOLs and multifocal IOLs as well other issues related to eye care and vision correction, please contact our Leesburg, Eustis, and Clermont, FL eye care center. We look forward to meeting with you during an office visit.
