There are many different issues that you may face when it comes to the health of your eyes. Thankfully there are many different treatments that are available for whatever eye care issues you may be facing. At our eye care center locations, we deal with many different eye care issues each day. While there are so many eye issues out there, below we’ll go over five common ones that many people face.
Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Myopia is a common eye care issue that people face. It’s a refractive error that occurs when the light passing through the eye falls short of the retina. This causes objects that are far away to appear blurry or indistinct. Corrective lenses or refractive surgery are the best options for dealing with myopia.
Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
Hyperoia is a common eye care issue that people face. It’s a refractive error that occurs when the light passing through the eye falls behind the retina. This causes objects that are close up to appear blurry or indistinct. Corrective lenses or refractive surgery are the best options for dealing with hyperopia.
Astigmatism
Astigmatism is a common refractive error that is often paired with myopia and hyperopia. Astigmatism is caused by a defect in cornea shape or in some cases an issue with the lens of the eye. Generally, both corrective lenses and refractive surgery should be able to correct astigmatism.
Cataracts
Cataracts occur when the proteins that are found in the crystalline lens of the eye begin to clump together. This causes the lens of the eye to become cloudy or milky, impairing the vision. In order to treat cataracts, it’s necessary to undergo cataract surgery. This will involve the removal and replacement of the clouded lens.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a serious eye problem that occurs when the pressure within the eye becomes very severe, affecting the optic nerve. When untreated, glaucoma can result in total blindness. Treatments for glaucoma will involve the use of medications, drainage techniques, and surgeries that will reduce eye pressure.
